IATF consultancy – IATF 16949:2016 training and process audits
“IATF 16949:2016” was published in October 2016 by the International Automotive Task Force (IATF) and replaced and set aside ISO/TS 16949:2009.
What does the publication of IATF 16949:2016 mean?
IATF 16949:2016 follows such high level structure as was implemented through DIN EN ISO 9001:2015. However, DIN EN ISO 9001:2015 is no component of IATF 16949:2016 anymore, meaning the respective passages are no more printed there.
Consequently, users need to have two standards at hand.

Which deadlines need to be kept in mind?
All the companies certified according to ISO/TS 16949 need to successfully complete a so-called “transition audit” based on the new IATF 16949:2016 by September 14, 2018 at the latest. After September 14, 2018, the validity of all the certificates based on ISO/TS 16949:2009 will cease to exist.
As a matter of principle, no more certification audits based on ISO/TS 16949:2009 are supposed to be performed after October 01, 2017. You can also find detailed information on the conversion at ITAF Transition Strategy.
What is different under IATF 16949:2016?

What is different under IATF 16949:2016?
IATF 16949:2016 is getting reconverted to the high level structure of ISO 9001:2015
What does that mean?
For example, in chapter 7.2.3 on the competence of internal auditors, a documented process for safeguarding purposes is required under IATF 16949:2016. There needs to be a list of qualified internal auditors.
The following minimum requirements need to be fulfilled by auditors under IATF 16949:2016:
- Auditors need to understand process-oriented approaches, risk-based thinking, customer-specific requirements and quality engineering. They must be able to perform audits pursuant to ISO 19011.
- Process auditors must be competent in terms of technology and know enough about the respective process-related risk analyses, e.g., the FMEA process.
- Product auditors need to have the required competence for understanding the requirements on the products and for handling the relevant measuring and test equipment
- There needs to be evidence on the competence of employed trainers, who need to fulfill the requirements.
- The competence of the auditors needs to be maintained and improved and evidence therefore needs to be furnished.
- There must be a minimum number of audits.
Furthermore, chapter 7.2.4 addresses the competence of “second party” auditors.
Chapter 9.3 on management assessment provides for audits at least once a year. If there are any risks that customer requirements or performance-related factors might not be fulfilled, the frequency must be increased. Chapter 9.3.2.1 has supplementations on management review input.
This was a small “excerpt” on the changes.
