Transformation with regard to quality in the future
During our last workshop, we discussed the guiding principle of PeRoBa, “Quality is our passion”.
And so, we came across the ultimate formula for quality!
Without making a big deal of it, yet with a twinkle in our eyes, we came up with the following:
quality = time investment * funding.
We thought: Why should it be complicated if it could also be easy? Therefore, we abbreviated the whole thing to:
quality = time * budget.
That reminded me here of the wise words of my grandmother, “Time is money, and we don’t have the money.” This sentence brought us directly to our next logical conclusion:
time = budget.
So, this means, if we combine both of these equations, it will result in a really exciting formula:
quality = budget * budget or budget².
Let’s be honest, who would have thought that quality really is a quadratic function of the budget? The math doesn’t lie, which led us to the following: a higher budget = higher quality.
This is an easy conclusion to come to, yet a whole lot won’t always cause things to become a whole lot better.
So, it will be no surprise that discussions about lacking or insufficient budgets during audits will frequently turn into the roots of a great many problems. And these “roots of the evil” were exactly what we took a closer look at.
During this, we remembered a quote by Augustine of Hippo, “Just as desire is the root of all evil, so too is love the root of all good.” However, during our practical work, the “evil” is actually not what it seems to be. Instead, it stands for a challenge. From this, another insight resulted:
budget = root_evil – or, put in a somewhat kinder way,
budget = root_challenge.
If we insert that again into our formula, we will come to an astounding result:
quality = (root_challenge) ², which simply means:
quality = challenge.
It becomes apparent that quality will directly arise from challenges! Who would have thought of that?
And so, we have come full circle here, as there is actually a close relationship between challenges and passion, since passion drives us not only to accept challenges, but to master them as well. If one is passionate about something, no challenges will feel like hurdles. On the contrary, they will feel more like opportunities. Passion will provide us with the required perseverance and the creativity for finding innovative solutions even if and when we are under pressure – and this is exactly what we are practicing here at PeRoBa.
It remains for us to ultimately hold on to stating once more that quality is our passion. And this passion doesn’t merely enable us to overcome challenges, but also to tackle them with energy, innovation, and a smile.
What challenges need to be mastered in the future when it comes down to quality?
During our workshop, we summarized these points under the term of transformation, and we identified three core areas in which PeRoBa will participate even more actively going forward with regard to quality:
- Globalization and high volatility in the economic as well as in the political context
- Digital transformation and new technologies
- Societal transformation
We will elaborate more on these three issues in future articles.
On that note, here’s to good quality!
